Showtime Ramon and ProjectPorter return with new project titled 'Gemspit Exquisite'

After applying Pressure in January, the rapper/producer duo comprising West Coast emcee Showtime Ramon and NY-based beatmaker ProjectPorter are back in the fold with a brand new project titled Gemspit Exquisite.  I must add that their work ethic is out of this world as it's not an easy feat dropping back-to-back projects in the space of a month. The 8-track body of work picks up from where their previous release stops and proceeds with psychedelic soundscapes underpinned by off-the-cuff, pop-reference-laden raps.

The project kicks off on a grand note with the dark textures on "Splatterbrain," with Showtime Ramon flexing his verbal biceps with reckless abandon. This is followed by "Tiger Woods," amoody piece thatnsampkes snippets of American Gangster and has lines like "Gem spit, Ramon, I'm a stallion, Lyrical Stallone/Hit like Clubber Lang now she couldn't leave me alone/They ain't on my level the skill gap Stockton, Malone/With a bad bitch, hot box a Jag, we rollin' stoned" that underscore the rapper's knack for references ranging from films to sports. Tracks like “Finish Line” and "Benji Wilson" boast pounchy boombap drums with lofi sensibilities and, of course, the usual cheeky rhyme schemes and wordplay. The latter, in particular, pays homage to the late 80s NBA promising star and Showtime Ramon's best friend who died at a young age. Other notable tracks include “Game Changer,” “Blue Magic Mcgrady,” and “Swanton Bomb,” a trilogy of hard-hitting tracks with distinct scenic soundscapes. ProjectPorter crafts the most exquisite backdrops using obscure samples layered to create an action-packed ambiance. This, for the most part, drives the entire project, giving it a unique and distinct feel throughout. The final track, “Angle Lock,” brings the project to a close with an ominous backdrop underpinned by a flurry of no-holds-barred raps.

Gemspit Exquisite is yet another notch on Showtime Ramon's belt, and as he puts it, "Think I'm Prince, I'm getting head under purple rain/I've been a legend, way before the financial gain."
