Phoenix-based rapper Roqy Tyraid is a time-tested lyricist and has continued to show why he is the best lept secret since inception. With an extensive catalogue of solo projects, singles, international collaborations and an impactful social activist endeavour on his belt, Roqy Tyraid is definitely not resting on his oars as he returns to he podium with a brand new single, "Adventures In Stereo Intro."
The track is proudced by the legendary DJ/producer J Rocc, a founding member of the revered DJ collective Beat Junkies, who laces a tight and somewhat off-the-cuff backdrop. The beat has a looming vocal sample that is pitched down many times over and a soulful guitar lick with pulsating bass-like stabs. He could have easily placed some punchy drums into the mix, but it was a great choice to leave it drumless as Roqy Tyraid effortlessly glides over the beat, switching cadences with complex internal rhyme schemes and punctuated bars. Lines like “Was hated out the gate, you wouldn’t slide a torch but I go ape-shit on a dinosaur/This type of primal rage is not a game/you porbbaly claim I’m trying to bully you boys on dying waves/ I’m off shore on some other ship like the guided plane” is a testament to Roqy Tyraid's proficiency as a rapper. I love how he connects the animal references to the classic 90s game Primal Rage and the water metaphors as well. Ultimately, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as there is so much to unpack as you continue to listen.
