London-based DJ, producer, and singer Memphis LK unveils her new EP Say, a 5 track project that blends 2000s electronic music, and club pop with a unique off-kilter twist. Featuring Aussie Trailblazer DJ BORING and Naarm-based powerhouse Willaris. K, the project is chock full of high-octane electro-house tracks that keep audiences stuck on the dance floor from start to finish. Starting with "Don’t Touch Me Baby" with DJ BORING joining the fray, Memphis LK delivers a thumping and energetic track that captures her fierce, unapologetic, and assertive style. Here, she pays tribute to all the modern baddies who just want to have fun with no restrictions. This is followed by the moody textures and punchy drums of "Just The Way You Are," where Memphis LK pens a love letter to that special someone who gets her but unfortunately being apart was the only way to cherish what they had together.
The track slowly soars with its warm tones, layered vocal arrangement, and catchy hook. The fun continues with "Need You Now" with its atmospheric pads, plucky synths with bright aesthetics, and bass-heavy four-to-the-floor drum patterns underpinned by pitched-up vocals that play out like a mantra while the Willaris. K-assisted "Say," is a mood-lifting collaboration, ripe with a propulsive rhythm, comforting synth-bass line, and rich summer-drenched melodic performances. The final track "Prosper" helps round it up on a slightly brooding and somewhat reflective note. The arrangement is dynamic and surges as it moves along denoting change and the natural resistance against it. The build-up is worth it as audiences experience a soul-stirring oomph that indicates the power of moving on.
Say is a cohesive and powerful project that encapsulates Memphis LK's live sets and transforms them into a studio setting. For example, "Just The Way You Are" is her version of the 2002 original by Italian electronic group Milky, and many of the other tracks are inspired by her clubbing experiences and sets.
Relocating from her native Melbourne to London in 2023, Memphis LK has been vigorously immersing herself in the UK club scenes that she’s heavily romanticised since her teens. Quickly landing a run of club shows in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Prague, Paris and Brussels, she was thrilled to find that clubbers across the UK and Europe had been tuned in to her dance-pop records, the sort that soundtrack afterparties and bleary-eyed morning commutes.
