A new Ukrainian band, Polyvoda just dropped their first EP called "Queens", and it's a real genre-bender that shows off how these musicians can blend jazz, rap, neo-soul and funk. The whole EP is 14 minutes spread over four songs and each track stands out for mashing up different music styles and having thoughtful lyrics that make you think.
The band is a bassist drummer, keyboard player and a female singer who wants to stay anonymous. They come out of the awesome music scene happening in Kyiv right now. People already noticed Polyvoda's last two singles "Bonfire" and "Homeless" which are chilled out soul jams about deep topics. Those singles also ended up on the EP plus two new songs.
The track "Queens" is the heart of this record. It's a powerful tribute to all women that dives deep into the many layers of the female spirit. Denis Levchenko the bass player said the song celebrates everything about being a woman from the softness to the strength.
All the songs are around three minutes but pack a punch with catchy beats and lyrics that make you reflect. Polyvoda puts their creative spin on music in every note on "Queens", letting listeners peek into the anything-goes sound coming out of Ukraine nowadays.
