Los Angeles-based artist SMILEZ is known for colliding the worlds of hip-hop and punk rock. Working alongside producer Digital Nas (Kanye West, Playboi Carti) on his new single “Self Sabotage,” the result is something fast-paced and intoxicating.
The story behind “Self Sabotage” is self-explanatory, with SMILEZ sharing, “I found myself reflecting a lot and saw that I had a tendency to self sabotage and wanted to explore that.” We all experience these tendencies at some point in our lives, making the track refreshingly relatable, with SMILEZ’s raw and honest lyrics resonating deeply.
The unique amalgamation of hip-hop and punk rock is demonstrated through turbulent melodies, pulsating rhythms and thunderous percussion. “Self Sabotage” is undeniably SMILEZ with the artist sharing, “I like to put my DNA into everything I do which is why it feels so personal.”
