Los Angeles alt R&B, neo-soul artist KIA speaks of unhealthy relationships in her latest single “Okay, Alright,” as she admits to trying to make things work with someone despite already knowing it was fractured beyond repair. We’ve all been there before and through KIA’s honest and relatable lyrics, it reminds us that we’re never alone in what we’re going through and that sometimes we have to make silly mistakes in order to learn from them.

“Okay, Alright” is a vibey, hypnotic track, where KIA’s falsetto vocals ride atop delicate synths, sexy guitars and a move-inducing beat. KIA shares, “We used real recorded rain sounds when it was pouring in LA to set a mood, as well as some video game sounds that took me back to a moment in life where I felt smaller. There are subtle sound effects on the vocals that represent my deep, introspective thoughts.”

“Okay, Alright” is off the upcoming EP, Retrospect, which will see KIA further delving into her past relationship. As she works through a period of turmoil she is able to come out of it stronger than before and now she’s ready to tell her story.
