X CLUB. shares 5 Tips on preparing for a festival set ahead of CRSSD Spring '24 [Feature]

Since its inception in 2015, CRSSD Festival has created a unique enclave for the global electronic music community in San Diego. Fostered to connect the best and brightest of clubland in a setting that personifies the sun-soaked aesthetic of Southern California, the event is a beacon of underground music that takes the stage in Southern California twice a year for Fall and Spring annual editions.

This year the Spring edition of CRSSD's flagship festival touches down back at Waterfront Park on March 2nd and 3rd. With an all-star lineup that includes the likes of Tale of Us, Black Coffee, Lane 8, WhoMadeWho, DJ HEARTSTRING, Richie Hawtin, and more.

Ahead of the Spring 2024 edition, Australian duo X Club. are set to play the City Steps stage on Saturday of the 2-day event. Chiming in for an exclusive with EARMILK, the pair share some of their personal tips on how they prepare for a festival set.

Read X Club's 5 crucial tips for preparing for their CRSSD Festival performance below.

  • Know your music back to front: "Be super familiar with all the music in your rekordbox/playlist, so there are no surprises once you’re on stage. Prepare your music by genre/mood/style so you can easily navigate."
  • Structure, but be flexible: "For us, it’s important to have an idea in mind for the set, knowing which general direction we want to go. Although, as a DJ, it’s also super important to be flexible on stage, you might feel something and want to switch it up on stage, it’s good to be ready for that."
  • Lubricate spare USB’s: "Preparation is key, bring spare USB’s with all the same playlists, in case one of them malfunctions and blows up."
  • 50 push ups at 150bpm: "This one is hella essential, get the blood pumping in your veins."
  • Drink water and eat bananas: "Simple, hydration & sustenance."

The production duo of Ben Clarke and Jesse Morath are inspired by sounds that span early 90s techno all the way through to future-facing drum’n’bass. Their project has carved out a space entirely their own, thanks to their authentic and eclectic take on dance music. X CLUB.’s sets are as precise and considered as they are unrelenting and propulsive. A key part of a burgeoning collective of artists in their home of Brisbane/Meanjin and around Australia, they remain connected by a sense of family, humility, and a desire to make dance music that makes you feel just as much as it makes you move.

The curated CRSSD experience extends beyond the music, radiating sound from the Ocean View, Palms and City Steps stages. The event treating attendees to handpicked food vendors, immersive decor and stage designs, and interactive programming through its CRSSD Lab music-tech lounge and vinyl market, cementing the event as a quintessential electronic music journey in one of the West Coast's most beautiful urban centers.

Tickets for CRSSD's Spring 2024 edition can still be secured for the two-day event.
