Rising artist Groovy Trill shares with us his new project The Groove, a 14-track body of work that explores his life from different perspectives. Here, he gives listeners a glimpse into his daily struggles, pain and the good times.
The project starts with "Life After Sports (Intro)", a reflective tune that gives listeners a glimpse into his life as a student studying under a sports scholarship and how he tried to balance the tumultuous life he is living in. "Alien" is a heartfelt and semi-biographical track that captures Groovy's unique mindset. Over a sublime and somewhat moody backdrop, he proclaims that he is an alien who is misconstrued by everyone. In "Purgatory", Groovy pours out his heart on wax and how sometimes he gets derailed from following his true path and being stuck in a runt. Next is "Pain & Mary Jane", a downtempo guitar-driven piece that shows how depressed he became after his parents broke up and the pressures of school got to him. Here, he makes use of a mellow melodic style over the sombre backdrop. "Sinners Testimony" is an insightful piece that explores one's self-doubt about who they are. Backed by a sombre vocal-driven backdrop and rich guitar riffs, the rapper runs through many events and actions that make him look selfish and uncaring. The lyrics are unapologetic and they extremely question his intentions. "Told You So" is a laidback and solemn piece that talks about finding one's true calling despite what others say or think. The hook says it all when he sings "I tried to tell you/You did not listen but you're forgiven"
Overall, The Groove gives a somewhat balance and cohesiveness in terms of theme and sound. Groovy Trill's writing is profound, candid and can be a bit off-center at times but for the most part it's genuine and relatable.
