Detroit artist Jugg Harden has dropped off a new project called Young N Havin. His latest project follows up a prolific run from last year that included full-length projects The Jugg Tape and The 13 Tape 2. Capturing quintessential Detroit sounds with sleek instrumentation and booming, tightly-woven rhythm sections paired with clever flows, Young N Havin is an engaging, stylish new project from the Motor City standout.
“Hustlin” makes for an invigorating cut early in the track-listing, laced with icy keys and silvery strings that create an immersive ambiance, moored by crisp percussion and rumbling bass. Harden introduces his laid-back yet imposing, low-key vocal style on “Hustlin”, equipping his verses with imagery-rich lines. The cathartic, distorted percussion and eerily sparse instrumentation of “Discipline”, paired with Harden’s smooth flows, makes for a refreshing listen with abstract elements. “My Baby” is a catchy joint packed with vibrant sounds, as drifting synths contrast intriguingly with an expansive rhythm section. Glitchy, chopped up samples create a bright tapestry of sounds beneath Harden’s staggering flows on “Cut You Off”, a potent closer to the project with its airy sonics and infectious rhythms.
With a wide range of instrumental flavours and flows, Young N Havin is a dynamic new record from Jugg Harden that distills essential Detroit sounds into stylish, raw tracks.
