Canadian rapper KILLY once again puts his versatility on display on K3, the third instalment of his KILLSTREAK series. Acting as a bridge between his more conceptual releases, this series is one which allows him to share fan favorites and engage in sonic freedom.
His latest seven-track project which features production by Boi-1da, Jaegen, OZ, Frank Dukes, Kookoo and more, has been brought to life as a dedication to Secret Sound Club member SEGA who passed away earlier this year.
Kicking off in a poignant style, the project opens with “LOOK AT WHAT WE STARTED,” the last track that KILLY and SEGA recorded together. Led by a smooth flow, the anthemic offering makes for a heartfelt beginning before intricate numbers like the sultry “Same Energy,” haunting “Addicting,” and the slow-build beats of “Top Down,” take over.
“Cut Em Off,” is a hypnotic production that manages to be uber punchy and laid-back all at once, while “No Saving,” comes alive with plenty of vibrance and warmth, leading into the melodic finishing notes of final track “Mind.”
With a carefully honed artistry built on a mosaic of influences right from a young age, KILLY’s ability to suture heavy and haunting instrumentals with vulnerable lyrics has established him a force to be reckoned with.
