Emerging Canadian singer Emily Chambers is back with something sensual and soulful in the form of her new single "Cicadas". The record is the first single of her forthcoming full-length album produced by Griffin Dean and sees both parties working with the band Stoop Kids. The laidback reflective record explores lingering emotions from a past toxic relationship and shows listeners how hard it can be to move on. The record has a subtle West Coast funk/R&B aesthetics with its throbbing bassline, rich synths and warm pads underpinned by head-nodding drums and layered melodies. Griffin opens up the track with his chilled, bassy vocals and melancholic demeanour as he reflects on his past trauma, this is followed by Emily's commanding vocals and rich melodic runs.
The accompanying video has a dreamy and warm feel, it captures both artists in different dreamy settings as they reminisce alone. It has a nice blend of performance shots and ethereal visual effects that allude to the memories that refuse to go away like Cicadas buzzing around trees. Filmed and Edited by Tom Eisenhood, David Paternostro, Griffin Dean, and Michael Clarke.
