Originally from Sweden and currently residing in the cultural hub of Berlin – electronic producer Future Chess Club is one of Europe's most prolific and exceptionally talented musicians. Today, he drops his latest EP Help, I'm Lost via French label Headroom Records and the whole project is a blissful look into future electronica.
The project is said to reflect the artist's life to some degree, chronicling his early years where he freely admits to "weirdo"" tendencies and an obsession with creating music. This continued on through his later life where he developed a deeper confidence through his beat-making ability.
“I always felt different, in my own bubble, Future Chess Club for me was a way to share my feelings and emotions without showing who I really am. When I was younger I was part of a Chess Club and this was a really safe place for me, where I met people like me who became my friends. With this project I want to create a place where people can discuss, share their feelings and collaborate.” – Future Chess Club
The EP starts with a funk-rich, infectious 4×4 track in the form of "Happy". Leaning on elements of nu-disco and funk, it's a track rich in guitar licks and samples, with the vocal sample at the intro discussing what's required to find happiness. From there, we hear the producer explore melancholy on "Be With You" – an organic, Bonobo style beat with plenty of emotion. "Like You" has an emotive, dance floor moment feel to it with rich synths providing a lush melody. The project finishes on a high note with "Get You High", an organic house gem with lush musical moments throughout.
The new release is a gorgeous collection of electronica gems that showcase an artist with skills across different genres. On "Help, I'm Lost" ironically, Future Chess Club sounds like he's never been more at home.
