After releasing her Samuel Kareem-produced 6-track EP last year, emerging singer-songwriter RIMON is back with a new single "20/20", with accompanying visuals. The reflective track is a befitting tribute to her Ethiopian roots and the country that gave her to the world. Starting with soft guitar riffs that slowly build alongside moody arpeggios, synths, and reverberated percussions, RIMON reflects on the many experiences, and pays homage to the rich culture and the wonderful people as well. RIMON's performance is superb as she understood the assignment, and her natural gift of changing vocal ranges, she delivers a dynamic display of her versatility. From the ebbs and flows and rising of pitches, she totally nails it, and gives listeners a wide array of emotions that can be easily felt.
Directed by frequent collaborator Bleu Unit, the visual makes ample use of the different scenes and the people of Ethiopia. There is actually no need for performance shots but we do get to see her in her element, soaking in the beautiful, natural scenery with her kinfolk. RIMON further adds that the video is a “true manifestation of home”.
After dropping out of school at the age of 17, RIMON spent most of her childhood moving from one place to another, eventually settling in Amsterdam. The songstress went on to form her own unique musical footprint and family, meeting longtime producer Samuel Kareem and the ALLE$ collective along the way. She hasn't looked back since and has released an EP with multiple videos.
