St. Louis-based indie-pop singer-songwriter Taya Elle has released her new single, “Rainy Days”.
Styled as a confession during a deeply painful time during Taya Elle’s life, “Rainy Days” is a smooth, gentle track that belies the emotional difficulty Taya Elle based the song on. A blend of English and Spanish lyrics, Taya Elle sings “never been taught how to love/solo conozco el dolor/no puedo mostrar ningún amor” (I only know pain/I can’t show any love).
According to Taya Elle: “‘Rainy Days’ is my confession and my conversation with God during one of the most painful realisations of my life – that i grew up without love being spoken or shown. When affection is absent, you don’t learn warmth, you learn confusion. You carry coldness instead of comfort. The rian in this song represents that emotional climate – constant, heavy, hard to escape. But even in the downpour, there’s a quiet hope rising beneath it; the belief that healing is still possible, and that love can be learned.”
The driving beat of “Rainy Days” definitely creates that hopeful mood, and the sense that you can’t let difficult times stop you in your path forward – especially if you want things to be better, and you want to carry on. Taya Elle’s rich, smoky vocals are quietly determined even while her emotive tone deals with the pain and sadness in the loveliest way.
