UK-based Nigerian artist PsychoYP kicks off 2022 with a double single release, just less than a year after he released his fourth studio project Euphoria. He is a rising Nigerian artist, who was born in the capital city of Abuja and blends various sounds of rap, trap, grime, drill, and R&B music. His latest releases, "Midlife Crisis" and "WYDTM" see him collaborating with long-time collaborator and burgeoning British producer Dylan Scott aka SCXTT (AJ Tracey, Tee Grizzley, Timbaland).
The first cut "Midlife Crisis" is a mid-tempo track made up of lush and ethereal sounds layered over punchy grooves that blend perfectly with PsychoYP's animated melodic flow and vivid lyricism. He shares a tale of his entanglement with an older woman and all the unforgettable memories they both shared. For the most part, PsychoYP is enjoying the ride even though he knows it's for a limited time as she is also in it for the thrill and to fill a void in her life. On "WYDTM" he makes use of an upbeat UK Garage sound repurposed with a modern vibe. The vibrant 2-step drums are seamlessly layered with sublime melodic synths and pitched-up vocal chops while PsychoYP and featured artist Azanti explain how their money spending coping mechanism for heartbreak works. PsychoYP really knows his onions and switches up his flow with a British twang and catchy melodies that everyone can rock with.
