Deca goes back to the 'Source Material'

London’s Def Pressé label proudly announces Source Material by Deca; the second in its Def Pressé Editions-KPM Crate Diggers series and part of its exclusive partnership with KPM/EMI — in which artists dig deep into the archives of the legendary KPM sound library. The project is an eight- track body of work that involves Deca flipping various records from names such as Alan Parker, Jim Lawless, Tony Kinsey, Alan Hawkshaw, and Duncan Lamont. The result is bridging the old and the new with that unique Deca sonic touch.

The playful "Sleepwalker" sets the tone with its smooth flutes and warm undertones, followed by the aptly titled "Summer song" and "WellSpring." The former is a bright and hopeful record while the latter is hinged on a sparse punchy drum groove, short vocal snippets, and solemn textures. He raises the stakes with the driving "Right of Passage," a somewhat trippy and dark piece that feels like a scene from a B-action movie. "Slow Healing" sounds just like the title and oozes a soothing aura with its dreamy and layered synths, warm pulsating basslines, and soft drums to match. The project closes out with "Set Course," which has a cinematic tone riddled with short stabs, offbeat strings, and a neck-snapping drum groove to complete the job.

Deca adds his experience working on the project as being ecstatic especially given the free reign to sample anything in the archive along with music from Themes International and Conroy as an incredible experience.

There's more to come from Def Pressé Editions-KPM Crate Diggers with releases by Stro Elliot (of The Roots), J-Live, and Chris Dave confirmed. Sister label Def Pressé Editions-KPM Originals will see new albums composed of entirely new, sample-free compositions, and will include releases by Bastien Keb, Corey King, and Chris Dave with more to be announced in the coming months.
