Swedish singer-songwriter Skøien teams up with producer Slowface for the new track ,"Rendezvous." Blurring the line between alt R&B and pop, the single is a result of the pair locking themselves away in a small studio in Mälmo for a year. And boy, is it brilliant.
Revelling in all the alt-pop goodness, "Rendezvous" is a dynamic track that dwells in the loose beats and electronic additions that embellish the sleek pop melodies. The pair's Swedish roots glow through the track's iridescent stylings, peppered with glitchy notes and silky vocals from Skøien. Written from the viewpoint of a past relationship resurfacing, Skøien tells us about the track's inspiration. "While finding yourself stuck in old ways, the song is about admitting, even if you don’t want to, that you can’t seem to stay away from this person — and diving head first without knowing where you’ll land." Lifting the emotions of anger and not being in control, "Rendezvous" skates across icy waters to produce a single wrapped in glacial pop.
With pristine production from Slowface, the jazz tinges spark the track's intrigue to produce a glistening track laced in experimentation. The blurring of sonic palettes create a sense of two artists knowing exactly how to amalgamate their sounds to release something very special. "Rendezvous" better be the first of many collaborative releases from these two.
