Cee reflects on a myriad of issues on "Stay Woke" [Video]

Montreal-based Australian rapper Cee is a resilient one and has quite a history in the underground hip-hop scene. From forging a crew The Movement Fam with his blood brother Notion to a short stint on Kevin Nottingham's HiPNOTT Records, Cee has forged his own path by venturing into quite a number of things beyond the music. At the moment, he is preparing to release his sophomore LP Relentless and now shares the visuals for his single "Stay Woke" which is his second single from the aforementioned project.

The aptly titled song might evoke some emotions but it's actually Cee just pontificating on the state of affairs in the political and hip-hop sphere and nothing more. As a fan of the culture, he bemoans the gimmicky trends that have taken over but he also acknowledges the evolution as well. On the production tip, he recruits producer Myer Clarity, guitarist Jon Roser, and violinist Mike Tompa who craft a punchy soft-rock/boom-bap infused backdrop for Cee to paint his thoughts all over.

The video is handled by his long-time collaborator King Richards who goes for a simple and eye-popping aesthetic laden with engaging motifs and a whole lot of performance shots. The color coordination is quite refreshing as well and the use of a plain white backdrop makes Cee stand out in every scene.

Cee and his brother are the sole owners of The Movement Fam, a boutique record label and production house in Montreal and Toronto. Cee also hosts the long-running BAOS Podcast, a craft beer review podcast.
