Canadian rising star Chi drops introspective new single “Demons,” reflecting on emptiness after days of activity. The track written on the back of long nights of partying and making music, sees the young artist ponder the price he has to pay for the things he wants out of life.
Boasting a hazy soundscape punctuated by catchy beats and smooth vocal delivery, Chi employs powerful songwriting in a candid yet impactful way. Referencing a point in his life when he was homeless with poignant lyrics such as “Sometimes I think about the past / Cold nights with frozen hands,” the track juxtaposes soothing instrumentals with a heartfelt tale of perseverance.
Bringing his full repertoire of musical talents into focus on this new offering, the singer who has already made a mark with previous releases “19” and “Gemini,” adds to his success with his relatable slice of electronic music. The Vancouver-based 20-year-old may be a newcomer to the industry, but his love for music has had a lifetime to grow and bloom. Having been interested in music since elementary school, where he sang in his first talent show, his music has evolved into sharp, dreamy productions that have seen him quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with.
"I was feeling very empty and thinking about how my life used to be, comparing and contrasting it to now and contemplating if the things that I’d always wanted were worth the price I would have to pay,” he said of the inspiration behind the personal track made to connect easily with listeners through the lens of his story and life.
With more singles cued up for release as well as EP on the way, Chi’s continues to tap into his own experiences to paint sonic worlds that are contemplative and inspiring in equal measures – and there seems to be no slowing down for him.
