Electronic music producer Tor arrives with his first album in four years, Oasis Sky. Though he’s been sought after for official remixes by RÜFÜS DU SOL, ODESZA, CloZee, and Frameworks, the veteran producer remains a somewhat enigmatic figure in the modern music scene. Now back with the third album of his career, Oasis Sky sees Tor master a unique brand of pulsating electronica as the record traverses through ambient soundscapes, highlighting manipulated vocal chops and moody chords with hints of breakbeats and organic percussion strewn throughout.
Oasis Sky has a uniquely distinguishable tonality to it, owed largely to the diverse soundback comprising the record. Tor’s strength lies in finding abstract samples; whether it's Finnish folk hymns, spiritual jazz, prog rock, or ‘60s Rwandan field recordings. These highly organic sounds mesh harmoniously with Tor’s electronic production, a seamless blend of nearly-ambient synths with a variety of styles of instrumentation. Ultimately, the homey record provides ample space to settle into, a conscious effort by Tor, “ A big part of the process [producing Oasis Sky] came from slowing down, removing distractions and allowing space for the music, which was made possible after settling into a new home”, Tor shares on his creative process
