Kit Major has grown a long way since she launched her music career two years ago, building up to open up about herself freely. Now, the Los Angeles-based art-pop artist showcases her growth with the release of her music video for "When the Drugs Don't Work."

Despite its melancholy lyrics, the production still feels light and airy in the midst of Kit’s dark-electropop sound. Blending reverberating drums and dark synths, Kit Major adds her sultry vocals with a touch of eerie background vocals, reminiscent of the croons of Amy Winehouse or Billie Eilish.

Her message behind the same may hit close to home for a lot of audiences. She said, “I first wrote this song because I had a major depressive episode in April from everything… COVID, the state of our world, the state of our nation, the fact I also deal with anxiety and depression… everything. I was taking my meds and it still made me feel as if I wasn’t on them, so I wrote down “what happens when your drugs don’t work?” I try, and am still learning, to be as open as possible about my mental state."

The music video dives into the psychological turmoil at the heart of the track with a hyperstylized touch. It looks like a scene taken right out of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with spotlights following Kit around her childhood home in a fever dream state. You don’t want to miss it.
