In 2020. a number of mainstream electronic artists in the dance music scene had tapped into the underground scene of the industry. Notable talents including Calvin Harris' side project Love Regenerator , had such a tremendous amount of success dabbling in the house and techno scene. Now, yet another popular name in electronic music world, Laidback Luke debuts his new techno-focused project under the alias Dark Chanell. Luke channels his inner techno side in the form of a four-track ep that debuts on his own imprint Mixmash Records. The announcement of the new moniker was more of a rebirth for Luke, as he has displayed his passion for the genre of techno in past. Luke has done a number of techno-only sets over the years and he was even previously a resident for the iconic Awakenings parties. This high energy techno EP entitled No. 1 is out now via Mixmash Records.

Kicking off the EP,  "Octagon" comes in with a bang. This heavy hitting peak-time techno cut features a bouncing bassline and stomping synths primed for the late night dancefloor. Second up on the release is "PURPUR" , Luke delivers a chaotic masterpiece that embodies the sounds of a warehouse rave. The unique track takes on an abstract approach while still encompassing the high energy theme of the release.  Approaching the back end of the release, ‘Traitor’ dives deep into the dark side of techno. the track displays Luke's ability to tap into different realms of the genre. Luke then goes on to close out the EP the same way he started it, with yet another heavy Peak-time track. "Trommel" gets the adrenaline flowing as the track builds to a combination of mesmerizing synths, driving beats and thunderous claps ideal for festival or dancefloor playtime.

While he is best known for more mainstream production in the electronic music scene, Laidback Luke's new moniker Dark Chanell displayed that he can also tap into the underground scene. Over the years, Luke has not been afraid to show his passion for the genre of techno with numerous strictly techno sets. With the release of No. 1 a proper techno release, Luke is set to further cement his techno credentials with the birth of his Dark Chanell project
