The post-punk shoegazers of Whiner have returned with another new single from their forthcoming sophomore album expected to debut later this year. Their angsty and nostalgic sound is reminiscent of 90s and early 2000s bands, but Whiner’s time is now. They’ve been rising steadily on the New Jersey and New York scene and this next album is certainly shaping up to be the catalyst that launches them to the next level. Following up the heavy heartbreak of “Dog,” the band’s next single “Baseball Bat” taps into a different energy.
With tons of drive and momentum, Whiner gets right to business with “Baseball Bat.” Armed with layers of distorted guitars and percussion, the track instantly hooks you in for the ride. If you tune in to any specific element of “Baseball Bat,” it’s obvious that Whiner has impeccable sensibilities. Between the raw emotion, dynamics, and commanding delivery, “Baseball Bat” is an easy favorite. It’s also one that probably goes off in a live show, although who knows when we’ll be able to see that day.
