Following the release of lead single "I Mean What I Said," DIY band Rosehip Teahouse are back with another indie-pop song, "A Million Times." While the former explores heartbreak, this track shines light on the interconnections between anxiety and identity. Specifically, lead singer Faye Rodgers touches on the concept of changing your character to fit in with other people's opinions and values.
Rodgers perfectly coveys these emotions in the hook with lyrics like, "It scares me to think that I'd reshape myself a million times to work it out." She further juxtaposes her feelings in the song's closing line, "I doubt you'd change for anyone, but I still change for everyone." Lyrics likes these capture the melancholy that comes with constantly succumbing to social pressures. Rodgers' delicate vocals perfectly emphasize these emotions, complemented by dreamy guitar chords. Ultimately, this track serves as a reminder that 'being yourself' is easier said than done.
Reflecting on the song's meaning, Rodgers says, "I was finding that I would try and mould myself into what I thought everyone else wanted from me, not realising that I was losing more and more of myself in the process. And even then, what I thought people wanted from me was usually wrong."
"I Mean What I Said" and "A Million Times" are two singles off of Rosehip Teahouse's upcoming EP, titled Fine. The project is slated for release December 9th via Big Indie Records, and will include five total tracks.
