In many respects, staying young, fresh-faced, and new is ideal in the entertainment industry. Admittedly, a number of entertainers have found success without having to represent themselves as being forever young. But for many actors, athletes, and models, being shrewdly aware of the steady march of time is a near-constant struggle. This weight becomes even heavier when you're an artist trying to forge your path in the ever-evolving and ever-fickle music industry. To expand on that last point, in steps our leading lady STORRY with her brand new single "Worth" – a brilliantly realized piece that reflects on the prospect of growing older and the feelings of self-worth that go along with it.
Peeling back the layers on a few revelations that she's uncovered during these curious, mid-COVID times, "Worth" allows STORRY to showcase just how gifted she is as a performer and songwriter. As per usual for the Toronto-based creative, her vocals are dynamic and gorgeously wrought while her words are beautifully bittersweet. Embers of doubt and anxiety flare subtly in STORRY's words, but there are feelings of acceptance and hard-fought wisdom that shine through as well. Producer Junia-T lays out a shimmering nu-soul arrangement for the young pop & soul starlet to wade in and California son Thurz gives the track an airtight verse that is as funny as it is reflective.
STORRY and Thurz both inject loads of character into this collabo – making sure to swim between being openly frank and slyly tongue-in-cheek. And while there's a lot to take away from their creation, "Worth" is a stirring study of acceptance that is absolutely worth the time it takes to give it a listen (heh!…see what I did there?)
