Aby Coulibaly steps up to the plate and hits an absolutely sweet home run on her debut single "Taurus".
"Taurus" serves as a huge sigh of relief for those waiting. This is one of the most excellently put together debut tracks we've heard in a long time. From the moody acoustic piano melody which is accented with some beautiful choral synth pads, to the ninety's boom-bap drum patterns, the production is masterful in execution.
The sound is unique but familiar. The true beauty in the production is in the spaces created by the production that Aby Coulibaly fills with emphatic ease. The beautiful sound effects of birds chirping that flow in and out of the beat creates another unique layer to the production.
In terms of songwriting, Aby does not miss. Beautiful poetic passages with tinges of grunge and urban experiences make for some of the most thought provoking verses on love and loss. Her ear for melody is clear and obvious to see. The cadence and pockets she is finding on this track are really spectacular. Mix all. this in with a fantastically penned chorus and and nice switch up with a rap verse toward the end, you have a complete package tied up with a bow.
The Dublin-based singer songwriter has already made some waves with features on tracks such as "Sirens" with Daire Patel and "Slumbr" which served as the intro track on Zack Oke's project titled Sleepwalkers. Aby's haunting vocal passages on both these songs have been excellent additions but the Irish music scene waited with bated breath to see if this clear and obvious ability translated into fantastic solo material.
Consumption of this kind of music is on the rise and it is clear to anyone who chooses to listen that the potential for a true superstar is right here. All the necessary tools are at Aby Coulibaly's disposal and we are extremely excited to see where she goes from here.
