Since pursuing her solo career, Melbourne's Memphis LK has risen as a new talent to be watched. Her latest single "Green Light", released via Dot Dash Recordings & Remote Control Records, completes her trifecta of buoyant singles following "Roses" and "Speak Honestly." Into the bargain, "Green Light" is paired with a hypnotic DIY music video directed by Memphis LK herself and Tomas Gaynor (Allday).
"Green Light" is the most up-beat and cheerful of her releases to date as an ode to the long-lived yet never forgotten club space. In other words, the high energy track transforms your own bedroom into a club dance-floor. Evidently, it fuses influence from two-step garage, Detroit electro and Chicago house to bolster Memphis' quirky vocals and relatable lyrics. The end result is electro-pop mania that will have you "glowing like a green light".
Memphis comments on the track:
“Green Light is like driving round in fast cars or being out at a club and dancing with your friends, and these are all things we can’t do in isolation. When I was conceptualising the video I was trying to think of ways to create different worlds in our apartment and still capture that party energy. Turns out you can have a pretty okay time dancing alone with a projector in the lounge room.”
In times of isolation one can only hope the release of "Green Light" signals an album around the bend. Until then, her unique sound has seen her play at big festivals down under including Pitch Music & Arts Festival, hopefully resurrected in the near future.
