Coyu shares insight on 'Technostalgia 2' and pays homage to his heroes [Premiere]

Spanish techno titan Coyu is tirelessly preparing for the release of his forthcoming Technostalgia 2 EP slated for release on Monday, June 22nd via his feline-fueled Suara imprint. Ahead of the weekend, Coyu is sharing the first of the four cuts comprising the EP alongside thoughtful insight into the release and and his label exclusively with EARMILK.

Rather than defaulting on what has become the norm across both techno, and dance music at large, delving deep into Ms. Merriam Webster's wealth of words to find the most abstract, obscure title for a production primarily percussive in nature – Coyu has opted for a refreshing approach to titling his tracks. Inspired by the audible atmosphere curated by Laurent Garnier at Sonar Festival, "Garnier at (any) Sonar" can be heard here first below and you can pre-order the Technostalgia 2 EP via Beatport today ahead of its' Monday release.

Suara · [SUARA399] Coyu – Garnier At (any) Sonar (Original Mix)

The first cut is not the only track inspired by Coyu's musical heroes – each of the four tracks is a homage to the techno don's audio inspiration and moments in his life that have influenced his perception of techno. Populated by kettle drum kicks and funky Detroit stabs, "Garnier at (any) Sonar" is a mesmerizing manifestation of Coyu's experience of the French founding father. "Garnier is my all-time favorite artist, definitely the DJ who has inspired me the most throughout my career. He has been a big part of the history of Sonar Festival, and with this track I wanted to pay homage to his iconic sets in my hometown, Barcelona."

Coyu debuted the first part the Technostalgia series in May. With a focus on raw warehouse beats, the inaugural installment shed the spotlight on him stripping back to his roots; the second edition is a bit housier than previous records. "It connects with the early days as a clubber, when house and techno were blended and the DJs eclecticism was a high valued quality in the scene."

The debut of this series was warmly welcomed, but the sets of songs were not produced in succession. "I made Technostalgia 2 in the Spring of 2019 and Technostalgia months later" he explains. "I thought the tracks of Technostalgia would fit better after the energetic and almost-industrial Post Raw Era, so I decided to delay Technostalgia 2, even though the tracks were made a year ago."

Coyu's Suara imprint has become home to a wide array of artists tailoring their tunes to the labels signature percussive profile. It showcases releases from both rising talent like UK techno rising stars KUSP and seasoned staples such as Raito and Alan Fitzpatrick. "I’m very honoured to work with The Advent for first time and next month we have fantastic releases from Hioll and Manuel Di Martino, two rising stars that I think will become big names in a near future."

The other tracks showcased on the EP "Carola At Monegros 2004, 12pm", "Clarke At The Loft 2005" and "El Arbol De Baum" draw their inspirations from the legendary Marco Corola, DJ David Clarke and the tribal tonalities of Colombia's fabled club El Arbol De Baum.  Available for pre-order now on Beatport, you can experience Coyu's interpretations of these legendary experiences Monday, June 22nd and stream the full Technostalgia 2 EP on all platforms.
