Katie Wood’s music is a vivid imagination of old meets new. Inspired by the vibrancy of the 70’s and 80’s, both her style and sound screams individuality and charisma. Her latest single “Uh huh Yeah” is yet another example of this unique identity she has built, taking listeners on a journey starting a few decades ago and bringing us right through to 2020. Oozing with gritty guitars, bold drums and raw vocals, “Uh huh Yeah” is a subtle throwback to the singer’s favorite era. Haim-inspired harmonies provide a moody echo to the song, simultaneously delivering retro vibes to the soft-rock banger.
“Uh huh Yeah” talks about Wood’s own struggles with agoraphobia and the havoc it causes. Despite its many negative effects, Wood sings about how the journey of diagnosis to eventually being able to live with it was one of self-discovery and she is ultimately stronger than ever before. Sharing in her press release, Wood reveals, “I couldn’t face leaving my flat, let alone go to work or see my friends and I just felt so powerless. So the song is about that feeling and in many ways accepting it as a way to move on through it, I do believe that you have to face your fears to overcome them.”
Wood isn’t scared of experimenting, in fact she flourishes from it. She’s formulating her own presence within the industry and she’s here to stay.
