Ellen Kempner-led Boston trio Palehound have shared their latest single “See A Light.” The poetic track was released last week, coinciding with the first date of their headlining tour alongside Adult Mom.
On “See A Light,” Palehound ruminates about self-empowerment and the longevity of love. Kempner’s low-key, whispery vocals captivate while resting above muted, wiry guitars and wistful melodies. It’s a sonic voyage that relieves the inner chaos, but its narrative journey feels relatable and sparks inspiration within. This new effort is a sonic continuation of their 2019 powerhouse record Black Friday. "See A Light" can be seen as a reflective look on the complexities of love and the extensive voyage to self-acceptance. It's an intimate and subdued effort for the trio yet comes off as striking as any other release.
“‘See A Light’ is about how love ages and the ways in which you have to keep up with yourself to make it work,” explains Kempner in a press release. “I recorded and mixed this song myself which was a really cool and empowering experience, I’m always trying to learn more.”
“See A Light” follows Palehound’s third LP Black Friday and single “Your Boyfriend’s Gun.” The latter release was accompanied by the b-side track “Autumn Sweater,” a Yo La Tengo cover, and released via Polyvinyl Record Co.
