Jessie Reyez gets lost in the depths of a starry universe on "LOVE IN THE DARK" [Video]

It is only in moments of solitude that truly we understand the immeasurable lengths that love is willing to stretch. The celestial video for Jessie Reyez's “LOVE IN THE DARK” depicts Reyez, wondrous and in awe, as she explores a luminous reverie.  Cast against a lake that stretches for an eternity, Jessie seems like a speck in the universe. Yet, it is evident that there is no diminishing of the power she holds in her spirit: Jessie belongs amongst the stars–paradoxically, she is both lost and at home.

“LOVE IN THE DARK” is Jessie’s Reyez open letter to someone who has stood by her until the very end. The stunning visuals, directed by Se Oh, follow Reyez as she stares into the depths of a sparkling cosmos, crying out a heartfelt reminder of her commitment to stay by her lover. As she vows to be the anchor her partner needs, her own need for a saviour is reflected back at her.

Clouds float around huge mountains as Reyez takes everything in. Soon, darkness engulfs the beautiful scenery and weeping violins chime in. She takes a gulp as she guides us through the deepest parts of her internal chambers. Her vocal delivery is intimate as she exposes a gaping hole in her heart caused by the absence of her rock. Her raspy cries stay strong even when singing the most painful of lyrics. The cooing of a choir arrives like a dove with a message of hope. Together, their intricately arranged symphonies reach out and grab our hearts.

“LOVE IN THE DARK” serves as the lead single off of Jessie’s upcoming debut album, BEFORE LOVE CAME TO KILL US, which covers 15 songs of love, loss and life. It signifies the heavy-hitting potency that the album is due to deliver on March 27, 2020. Jessie, who is fresh off a Grammy nomination as well as a performance for President Obama in her hometown of Toronto, has already been making immense strides in January. An exciting year is ahead for her, including a performance at Coachella and the approach of one billion global streams.
