Pop Smoke lets loose on "Drive the Boat"

Newcomer Pop Smoke keeps the henny flowing on his latest single "Drive the Boat." Notorious for his deep and raspy voice, the New York native keeps his cool over gritty, underground production. "Drive the Boat" would make Hot Girl Meg quite proud, who took the phrase to ethereal levels this past summer. Pop Smoke's raunchy play on the coined phrase is going to keep the winter warm.

The 20-year-old, Brooklyn-based rapper stepped onto the scene earlier this year with his banger "Welcome to the Party," which had a few remixes from Nicki Minaj, French Montana and UK rap star Skepta. Back in mid-July, he dropped his first EP Meet the Woo, produced by British-producer 808MeloBeats. The entire project consists of Pop Smoke's growl over a blend of drill and grime production. His sound is reminiscent of early 50 Cent and G-Unit, so his emergence is quite refreshing. The East Coast has been subjected to a lot of upbeat and singsong-y music, and Pop Smoke is bringing back that old New York sound that we've all desperately been waiting for.
