The trio Flatbush Zombies working with veteran rapper Tech N9ne together creates the right amount of heat to warm up the winter. Produced by the multifaceted Erick the Architect, "Monica", is an energized play on a familiar refrain. It's been a pretty quiet year for Flatbush Zombies; their last album Vacation in Hell released back in 2017. Earlier this year, they did link up with Pro Era and The Underachievers for the first Beast Coast collective album, Escape From New York. That release didn’t gain much traction so this single was needed from the trio. Enlisting verses from Erick, Juice, Meech, Tech, the song lacks lyrical versatility, focusing more on sticking to the script.
This song is really just a big flex. Instead of the lyrically complex and dark production that the trio usually gives, “Monica”, is a jab at all the bullshit. From twitter fingers to industry gossip, FBZ, really does this shit. Erick sets up the track, boasting his undeniable rap and production skills. It’s always good to hear verses from Erick since many forget that FBZ isn’t just Juice and Meech. Erick lets it be known that he wasn’t left off Bad & Boujee. Tech is on the hook with some good murderous energy “anybody want smoke? We got it/ But if it’s smoke from beef, you won’t know who shot it”. This track comes right on time to not only leave the decade with a banger but also gets us ready for whatever this group has in store for the new year.
