Soulful, contemplative sounds emanate from singer-songwriter Gabriela Eva's newest alternative mix of "HEY!"—a charming number recorded in collaboration with producer Joe Dworniak.
Embodying a myriad of sonic influences, the sophisticated jazz-soul exteriors of "HEY!" is one that is instantly infectious, and is a number formed through flawless collaboration.
"I wrote "HEY!" in my mum's living room sitting on a snug rug by the fire in Colchester…I always write easily at home," Eva shares. "The chord progression came first; I've been writing on my electric guitar for a few years now and love the process. It's one of those songs that just feels so good to play live and is easy to relate to. I took it to Riverfish Music and Joe and I brought it to life. I'm glad to have a sick bass line of his on there. Working with Joe in the studio is a dream, you can see the sea from the studio and breath in the fresh air…Joe did an alternative mix, which is just pure vibes and inspired by Frankie Knuckles—I can't wait to see people dancing to it."
Needless to say, Eva's soulful croons immediately strikes the dancing chord within us, consistently built up by Dworniak's lush production. Unapologetic and wholly teeming with feminine prowess, the alternative mix of "HEY!" is a funk-driven track that sparks, bound by future revelations and nostalgic remembrance.
British singer and songwriter Gabriela Eva grew up in the historic market town of Colchester in Essex, raised on the sounds of Alanis Morissette, Nina Simone and Portishead. Inspired by strong female singers and with her mother's encouragement to freely express herself creatively, Eva was empowered to teach herself to play guitar and explore her own music. Her 2018 debut EP RISE UP and standout single "Sailing Over The City", was played on BBC6 Music by Gilles Peterson, along with live performances on BBC Radio London with Robert Elms and BBC Introducing (Essex) with Ollie Winiberg.
