In the abundantly saturated world of music, it’s not easy to find new projects that exist in a universe of their own. Faultress is setting out to change that. The London-based songstress has a new EP on the way entitled 5 Myths and is previewing the release with two of its singles. “Sanctuary” and “Hood & Wolf” show off Faultress’ captivatingly unique sonic aesthetic, aided by producer Joshua Davenport, as she explores the myths surrounding female experiences in power, beauty, desire, and mental health.
“Sanctuary” features a fascinatingly minimal production from Davenport with pulsing synth bass tones and swirling chords as Faultress invites listeners into the darkened hallways of consciousness. The song’s arrangement continues evolving throughout as Faultress stacks layers of vocal lines that build in energy without every fully exploding, keeping the audience on edge.
With a subtle hint in its title, Faultress describes “Hood & Wolf” as being loosely based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood, with a more viscerally sexual spin. Davenport delivers another tense and restrained production, providing a fitting backdrop for Faultress’ vulnerable yet impassioned vocal delivery.
5 Myths is set for release on November 8 and is available to pre-save here.
