The UK hip-hop scene lost one of its shining stars who went by the moniker Cadet last February. The rising emcee was involved in a fatal car accident on his way to a concert in Staffordshire. In March, on what would have been Cadet’s 29th birthday, many artists took to the stage of a poignantly sold out Brixton Academy for The Rated Legend show held in his honor. In effort to keeping his memory alive, Underrated Legends have shared Cadet's video for his song "Gang Gang" which highlights the issues of police brutality in urban areas.
Cadet’s first posthumously released single was produced by LA Beats, and once again shows the rapper's fiery style and poignant lyrical content that is both entertaining and brutally honest. "Gang Gang" was inspired by a recent real-life incident, and thoroughly details the social injustices black men face from being wrongfully targeted by the police. Cadet intended its narrative to give the perspective of how societal stereotypes can creep into law enforcement's perception of black men in general.
The visual is based on the interrogative concept. The viewer see the narrative from a whole new perspective, complete with nuances ranging from personal bias, societal constructs, and much more. The self-directed video was completed two weeks before Cadet’s passing, and shot in London with the help of Simon Awkes (director of Shiro Story). Get "Gang Gang" on Spotify.
Cadet started his rap career with the South London-based Gipset crew, which includes his cousin Krept, Konan, and Redz.
