New York City's very own electronic music duo The Knocks just drops their latest summer tinged compilation, New York Luau / No Requests. Comprised of a joyous two-track bundle that also includes an extended instrumental version of "New York Luau", this EP brings you the summer sound you need to cope with the recent heatwave.
"New York Luau" is s dependable house cut featuring chunky drums, dancing basslines and JPatt's signature hip-hop flow. It is an incredibly fun, bass-heavy homage to the city that they love and call home – but it is also destined to be heard at parties around the world. Following up, "No Requests" opens with a sassy vocal sample reminiscent of 1990’s funk. The warm synth and jubilant aesthetic of the hook are infused with retro dancehall vibes. Taking inspiration from acid house and disco flair, "No Requests" creates a total Studio 54 daydream.
B-Roc and JPatt have been grinding as The Knocks for a decade, making music for themselves and others in their HeavyRoc studio in New York City. In 2018, the duo charted in the Top 50 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums 2018 Year-end chart, launched a monthly curated party called The Knocks & Friends residency at PUBLIC Arts in New York City, and wrapped the US headline New York Narcotic tour in February, hitting all major markets.
