Columbus, OH native Evan The Red Headed is more complex than his name might suggest. At the surface he comes off as a goofy kid with the punchlines having fun over 808 heavy production, but after further listens, his music starts to reveal a different character. Some darker messages start to arrive under the veil of humor.
In Evan's newest release "Your Daddy Has Green Eyes," he discusses family and his disdain for authority. There is a stream of consciousness-type flow over an industrial-sounding beat produced by frequent collaborator Cool Bread. The Hana Mendel-directed video is in black and white, but as Evan says on this track, "If I was a baldie I'd still be redhead." The lack of color doesn't take away the significance of embracing the red hair. He stands out and is finally excited to do so.
Each new song Evan releases is an adventure. The ending is often a very different place than where you've started, but you always leave satisfied. He provides a strange comfort while being completely off the wall – he also comes across as incredibly relatable. With only a handful of music out, there is plenty of time to follow the growth of this unique artist.
