Channel Tres submits to new role as “Sexy Black Timberlake” [Video]

Compton-bred, LA-based producer Channel Tres is back with his deep house sound dripping in classic G-funk swagger in latest single "Sexy Black Timberlake".

Beyond a skillful producer in his own right, Tres delivers intense complexity to his music that runs deep. It's all very subtle, but if you listen carefully “Sexy Black Timberlake” could be a representation of the various West Coast hip-hop sounds that would have influenced the young producer in his earlier years. From the similarity of Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Got Your Money" melody found in the keyboard notes, to the background interpolation of what Dr. Dre produced in Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice"; Tres' music is a marriage of the West Coast hip-hop sound and a dance music scene that had seemingly splintered over the years.

But this ain't a Mark Ronson whitewashed knockoff. Channel Tres embodies something a lot purer with his music that's both self and culturally identifying. Tres acknowledges the role of being a young black man with a platform that can be used to express honest social commentary through deeper lyrics. Of "Sexy Black Timberlake", Tres shares, “As a black male, I’ve experienced being vilified or objectified depending on what I was wearing or what I was doing. “Sexy Black Timberlake” is me being objectified as a sex object for my skin color."

For the video, Channel Tres enlists his "Controller" director Ian Goodwin (Drake, Young Thug, Cousin Stizz) one more time for a stunning play of hues and saturation that captures vivid pop of color. The video takes fans through an intimate journey alongside Channel Tres with a full display of South Central swagger.

Now with LA label Godmode, the team behind acts like Yaeji and Shamir, Channel Tres has also announced the release of his upcoming debut 'Black Moses' EP dropping August 2.
