The Toronto duo SWANES is back with a gorgeous new single entitled “Dreams of Iceland.” The brothers Michael and Stefan Bildy have become known for their particular brand of atmospheric soundscapes and impactful vocals and the new track does not disappoint.
From its opening moments, “Dreams of Iceland” evokes imagery of the country of its namesake with sweeping synth pads that bring to mind Iceland’s serene, breathtaking natural beauty. The song is not completely ambient, however, as SWANES maintain the momentum with understated yet perseverant percussion and a bubbling bass line in the verses. The lyrics focus on relationships and absolutely blossom in the song’s hook as we hear the brothers’ impeccable vocal harmonizing on full display. The beat keeps churning throughout, even as they cleverly mix in various instrumental elements. The song’s structure is also refreshingly unpredictable, as SWANES drew inspiration from Nordic song forms and melodies that keep the audience on our toes. The lush production work and astounding vocals on “Dreams of Iceland” should get listeners excited as SWANES prepare for a North American tour later this year.
SWANES will be performing at the Garrison in Toronto on May 7 as part of Canadian Music Week and additional North American tour dates will be announced in the coming months.
