California-native and producer Freddie Joachim is about to drop his new full-length LP ‘Beyond The Sea of Trees’, to be released via Jakarta Records in May 2019 but in the interim, he teases us with the lead single "Backyards". The record blends elements of classic jazz, 90s boom-bap styled hip-hop, and soul. Using a classic drum break, he peppers it with reflective keys and a sturdy bassline which all rise to a gripping nostalgic horn-driven chorus helmed by Natalie Olivieri's vocals. Hit play below:
For those who may just be tuning in, Joachim gained worldwide notoriety through his work with Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ with their single 'Waves'. Renowned rapper J.Cole later picked up the same instrumental for his 'False Prophets' release. You can preorder the album here.
