Sam Valdez has just released her highly anticipated shimmering shoegaze single. Entitled “Turn”, the track features echoing guitars, glittery cymbals and light ethereal vocals emitting a charming Americana sound.
Thematically, “Turn” is a narration of feeling disrespected by others and discovering how to start representing yourself and your values – "Sometimes it’s best to just leave things behind" Valdez shares, "rather than trying to band-aid every situation.”
Los Angeles based singer-songwriter Sam Valdez is known for creating music that’s a unique blend of shoegaze rock and vintage Americana indie folk. Fusing both genres, Valdez has crafted wistful yet haunting soundscapes drawing the listener in with every note.
Growing up at the edge of the Nevada Desert, the landscape was a huge inspiration for her writing and composing. The vastness and solitude that comes from desert life is apparent in her deep cinematic arrangements. Influenced by Sufjan Stevens, The War On Drugs and the words of Sylvia Plath, she constructs stunning compositions and “Turn” is an exceptional illustration of just that.
Valdez is on heavy rotation on NPR tastemaker KCRW. She has further performed at prestigious venues throughout Los Angeles and is set to embark on a European tour. Take a listen to her dreamy new single “Turn”.
