Amber Mark has released her first single of 2019, with "Mixer" continuing her affirmation as a leader in her own carved out space in the pop world. Paired with a coordinating music video, the single sees the New York City artist spread her wings with another new exploration of sound that pays homage to the hip-hop, soul and R&B of the past.
Mark doesn't follow a formula in her music, and "Mixer" is another example of this. While she always goes back to the world music that influenced her moving debut, the levels in which it appears varies greatly. Here, it's funk and early aughts R&B that are the stand out inspiration. Its hook is plain infectious, and the video is 70's glam, highlighting a set that hearkens back to interactions on a Harlem street.
