There are some of us dedicated to rummaging the inner regions of the web in search of that good alternative urban music and serving it directly to music lovers. At EARMILK, we call this initiative "The Slice". Every fortnight we share with you 10 or more ear-grabbing songs from genres ranging from hip-hop, grime, soul, afrobeat/pop and dancehall. So let us do the digging for you while you sit back and relax to some brilliantly crafted music from around the globe.

Miranda Writes & Cool Typhoon – "NYC"

Miranda Writes team up with Cool Typhoon to pay tribute to their hometown of "NYC". Over a minimalistic booming backdrop, the duo take the listener through the 5 boroughs while detailing what makes them tick.

Sevah – "Free Time"

16-year-old Brooklyn singer-songwriter Sevah makes her first appearance on The Slice with her brand of soulful, hip-hop-tinged music. The soft-spoken artist delivers a sultry and somewhat solemn record titled "Free Time" which serves as the lead single off her EP Distance is Far.

Sevah wrote “Free Time” while recuperating from a Lupus flare up. Too nauseous to paint, from the treatment of medication, the artist in Sevah wrote and sang music from her bed. From that adversity was born “Free Time” and the EP “Distance is Far”.

Brain Rapp – "Light"

Maryland-based emcee Brain Rapp's new song "Light" is an aspirational jam that aims to keep our hopes up. Over a bright, upbeat soundscape provided by Brandon Carlyle, Brain Rapp reminds the listeners that we all have a light to shine and that "biggest middle finger is a smile". "Light" is the first release from Brain Rapp's new album, BLOOM.

Eto & Superior – "Fortune"

Rochester, NY’s Eto team up with German-Spanish producer Superior on the solemn record "Fortune" which serves as the latest material from the duo. The record is devoid of drums and is made up of gloomy strings and piano stabs that accentuate Eto's emotion-filled performance.

This is the first single from the forthcoming full-length collaboration, Long Story Short, which is set to drop on CD and digital formats via Below System Records (Dyzzi, Chuuwee & Trizz) on April 12th (with vinyl coming courtesy of Tuff Kong Records). The features on the album come courtesy of Skyzoo and Toronto rhyme-counterpart, Daniel Son. As a producer, Eto also recently laced tracks for Benny The Butcher, 38 Spesh and Jamal Gasol.

PWR CPL – "My Stop"

LA-based husband and wife Alt. R&B duo known as PWR CPL blend jazz/RnB and more on their new song "My Stop". A very solemn and soothing track that transports the listener to a whole new alluring dimension aurally speaking.

Choosey & Exile – "Low Low" Feat. Aloe Blacc

Emcee Choosey & producer Exile share the summery visuals for their vintage-tinged single "Low Low". Choosey rides Exile's smooth classic backdrop effortlessly as he details his love for his lady and cars. Aloe Blacc also shows up with a solid chorus to tie things up. The visual was shot by A Good vs Evil production. "Low Low" is off the duo's upcoming collaboration project Black Beans.

Shan Vincent de Paul – "Zen"

Shan Vincent de Paul (aka SVDP) newest visual "Zen" is pretty engaging from its unorthodox style and colorful aesthetics. SVDP plays an astronaut who is love-smitten by a mysterious angel (played by up and coming Tamil actress Anne Saverimuthu) who leaves Heaven to meet him on earth. Ironically, he is eager to leave Earth to find Heaven through her. He doesn't hold back his feelings over the soulful backdrop and alluring melodies.

Truth – "Mic Like Boom"

Queens representative Truth bursts through the seams with the release of his new video "Mic Like Boom". The lyrically-charged banger features Boom bap production from JK1 The Supernova with precise cuts supplied by PF Cuttin (of Blahzay Blahzay fame), whose use of a famous Wu-Tang sample on the hook is perfectly fitting.  In his new music video, directed by Tha Embassy Elite x OnTime Films the Queens spitter Truth hits the “Mic Like Boom” and flexes on the competition with hard-hitting vocals and braggadocious rhymes.
"Mic Like Boom" is taken from the emcee’s recently released LP, The Fight For Survival, which boasts guest appearances from Ill Bill, Tragedy Khadafi, and Royal Flush. Get it here.

Maye – "My Love"

Budding singer-songwriter Maye makes her debut on EARMILK with a love-laden cut titled "My Love".  She teamed up with producers Pat Howard and Fernando Belisario, both of Miami’s Magic City Hippies who help give the song its essence with a lush and dreamy soundscape. The track has a lo-fi funk vibe and really suits her airy, sonorous vocals which cut through the mix like a hot knife through butter. She also has plans on releasing visuals for the song later in the coming weeks. Get it on Spotify.
