S&S Records founder and four time Grammy nominee Steve "Silk" Hurley invites Chicago-based producer James Curd, to remix two legendary house tracks: Hurley’s "Jack Your Body" and Jamie Principle’s "Baby Wants To Ride". The two 1980's tracks helped establish the era of house, becoming influential in house music's present standing. With the S&S Remixes, Curd retains the original Chicago House sound whilst adding his own twist with masterful ease.
"There is a version of me in some parallel universe dancing to the original tracks blasting on my boom box in the basement of my childhood home," Curd shares, reflecting on the original tracks' influence. "I was 10 years old when these songs came out, and when my older sisters used to tune into WBMX I would go absolutely bunta! It’s such an honour to remix these tracks."
Indeed, Curd's enthusiasm shines through in both as the remix of "Baby Wants To Ride", kicks off the EP with bass-heavy flair. Enthralling synth notes ascend naturally, rolling deep in bouncy bass grooves whilst keeping the iconic vocals intact. Thematically sensual with a kick of danger, Curd treats the remix as a new balance of sound, adding delectable 303 modulations to the widely recognized tune for emphasis. The "Jack Your Body" remix follows suit by keeping in line with the original, maintaining the irresistible nature with its iconic chants. Curd indulges us with more 303 modulations, delivering a wholly satisfying dance experience for all.
"Both of these records were "outside the box" when they were originally released, so Skip and I needed to put them in good hands for this exclusive S&S package," Hurley shares. "James Curd truly knows the history, and the initial impact of House Music, because he witnessed it first hand in Chicago at a young age. So we knew his passion for the classics would inspire him to "flip it to today" with relevant and forward-thinking versions that take the original vision to a different place without losing the original intent."
