When growing pop icon Troye Sivan's sophomore album Bloom arrived in August of last year, there were a number of stand out tracks. There was leading single "My My My," an infectious collaboration with Ariana Grande titled "Dance to This," and more somber additions like "Animal." Of the ten tracks included on the album, Sivan's slow-building "Lucky Strike" produces an aura of an endless warmth. The synth-filled track is a declaration of praise to a partner who tastes of Lucky Strike cigarettes. In the newly released visual for the song, Sivan is found lounging on a beach where his heart is poured out to the beach bartender, both literally and figuratively.
Directed by Emma Westernberg, who also directed Janelle Monaé's visual for "Pynk," the "Lucky Strike" video is amassed with simple detailing–a boat sailing through the water far in the distance, young kids playing volleyball while their parents idle under the sun, a picnic basket here, a cooler there. Cut throughout the video are scenes of Sivan in total paradise with the boy from the bar, who at one point, following Sivan's instructions to serve him "just… whatever," prepares an icy drink complete with lemon juice and blood squeezed straight from the singer's heart. We see Sivan delve further into his fantasy with a one-on-one leisurely boat ride, as well as an all-inclusive beach dance party as the sun sets. "Tell me all the ways to love you," is repeated as the song fades out, and the singer's dreamlike beach day concludes.
