quami.xyz (kwā-mē) noun /adjective: is Toronto based artisan who often dares to color outside of the lines of musical convention. Mostly self-taught and defined the by his own truths, quami.xyz is known to take inspiration from scenes and genres far & near in order to meld disparate worlds into his own intimate sonic collage. He is back off the release of his debut album Et Cetera, released on August 7th, 2018, an album that showcases his natural affinity for crafting grandiose melodies interwoven with a tight stream of conscious lyrical narrative, with the visuals for his single, "Clementine" below.
"Clementine" is a jangly guitar driven ode to his own mind state in one of his lowest moments, previously reviewed by our very own Tayo Odutola, that opens with a door in cut begging you to open and go down the musical rabbit hole. The video is a surreal journey that follows quami.xyz in a circular spinning fashion much in the same way his love swirls around him.
Throughout there is an homage to "The Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo between himself and his love "Clementine." I find this comparison to be painfully on the nose and brilliant due to the fact that for some, myself included, love is the meaning of life.
Without love, the journey for, the yearning, the ownership of, the loss of we are nothing and quami.xyz's self awareness in this video is a reflection of a man who knows exactly how beautiful and tragic love and love lost is.
quami.xyz croons his god damn heart out on "Clementine" and the visual component only furthers the notion that he is an artist, an artist that you need on your radar.
