While many of today's alt-rock bands are cashing in on the emo-pop sound of the mid 00's, the West Coast alternative-rock trio New Beat Fund have been hard at work writing and producing original music for their upcoming EP 'Chillanthropy Pt.1’. Comprised of Jeffery Laliberte, Paul Laliberte, and Shelby Archer, their upcoming latest EP is intended to be a unique blend of hip-hop infused alt-rock. Today, NBF have released a new video for their moodier and more introspective single "When She's Sober". Hit play below:
"I wanted the video to feel like the Garden State of music videos, a melancholy pairing of dance and simple vignettes to add a new complexity to the song." Paul Laliberte, New Beat Fund
Reminiscent of that alt-rock sound of the 90's, this Eve 6'esque melancholy tune is a broodingly delightful affair. The vocal melody plays perfectly with the stunning choreography featured in the music video. There's also a really great play between the inescapably catchy guitar pluck that's featured throughout the track and the distorted guitar riff that comes in right before the bridge. There's sincere emotional content injected into the lyrics, "Livin is everything like you said, I don't wanna be alive I'm dead." Without crossing over into becoming a melodramatic ballad, NBF truly invites listeners in with this perfectly intimate track.
New Beat Fund have opened up for everyone from blink-182, Aer and 3OH!3, and appearances on the recent Vans Warped Tour. With such a unique blend of Southern California rock sound, this is a group that's quick to dominate the alt-rock airwaves this year. Keep an eye on them with the links provided below.
