Anyone who has been suffering from Hiatus Kaiyote withdrawal can rejoice! Well, sort of. The Australian future soul juggernaut may not have released new music since 2015, but their ever-captivating lead singer Nai Palm released a new music video for her song “Crossfire,” off her debut solo album from last year, Needle Paw. The singer, who recently appeared as a guest vocalist on Drake’s Scorpion, is back with a video that includes wild costumes, cars, and quite a bit of fire.

“Crossfire” is musically stripped down compared to Nai Palm’s work with Hiatus Kaiyote, showcasing her effortlessly soulful guitar playing and buttery vocals. The video follows suit, with her standing in the middle of a dusty Australian racetrack, singing and strumming as she is circled by a dingy stock car before setting fire to it in the video’s final moments. The action gives new depth to the song’s raw lyrics in its refrain where she sings, “a crossroad is better than a crossfire.” In an Instagram post, the singer revealed the video is an ode to old Australian car cinema, which is often referenced by Quentin Tarantino. Like much of her earlier work, the “Crossfire” video is a show of local pride for Nai Palm. We can only hope that she keeps sharing that local flavor with the rest of us.
