Fans of Robyn have learned to live without their leader in the spotlight. The Swedish pop and electronic star hasn't released a new solo album in nearly eight years, and nee a tour and EP with Röyksopp in 2014, has made her live performances impressively rare for an artist of her success. But her fans have built communities around her music, her legacy, throwing parties with Robyn's music as the theme and simultaneously proving its power. One of these parties is the subject of a new mini documentary, Missing U – A Message To My Fans, where over seven minutes we see her fans' devotion, whether a themed cycling class or a staple themed party at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg.
In Missing U, we meet some of the people behind those parties and see Robyn as self-admittedly shy when it comes to fans adoring her shadow in the spotlight. But while in town for Red Bull Music Festival earlier in 2018, she decided to stop by one of these parties, and we see that awkwardness immediately flip into a genuine ownership of her role. But Missing U isn't just a "thank you" to fans, it's a teaser for her long-awaited new single of the same name. Debuting this Friday via Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1, the track will serve as the start on the road to the album that will break her silence.
